Local Activists Throw Dance Party To Benefit Teen Addiction Recovery
HILLIARD, OH — Local fun-seekers, families, businesses and activists danced the afternoon away to support addiction recovery for teens. The Making Magic for Maryhaven dance party, organized by Next Level Trainings’ current leadership class, was an afternoon of fun for kids of all ages. All proceeds went directly to supporting the adolescent branch of Maryhaven, a treatment center empowering teens to battle addiction and go on to lead healthy, productive lives.
Hosted on Sunday, July 15th at the Makoy Center in Hilliard from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., activities included a dance party, a lip sync battle, henna tattoos, carnival games, and more. Refreshments and food were donated by local businesses, including Cap City Dublin, City BBQ, Donatos Pizza, J. Alexander's, and Jan Kish la petit fleur. A silent auction was also held with prizes donated from a bevy of local businesses.
Space was donated entirely free of charge, valuing at around $2,500, and food collectively valued at $15,000. "We're so honored to be putting on this event to support Maryhaven,” says Mary Forman, co-chair of the Next Level Trainings events committee. “Addiction is an epidemic unlike any other in this country and as a community we have an obligation to support one another.” Forman continued: “Additionally the event itself is a testament to what makes Central Ohio so special. Businesses like The Makoy Center donating space, and numerous other local businesses for donating food and items for the silent auction allowed us to raise the maximum possible amount for our most vulnerable teens. We can't thank all the businesses and the community enough for the out-pouring of support for Maryhaven!"
Events are being held as part of a month-long fundraising and volunteer campaign by Next Level Trainings’ current leadership class in support of Maryhaven’s adolescent services. Teen addiction is a global epidemic. Maryhaven is a treatment center that empowers teens in Central Ohio to heal from addiction and co-occurring disorders with their compassionate, encouraging, and comprehensive care.
The aim of this campaign is to provide Maryhaven with capital and resources to renovate their spaces, to create an even more healthy and supportive environment where these teens can battle and be victorious over their addictions. To date, these activists have raised over $135,000 for Maryhaven, with a goal of raising $165,0000. Donations are still being accepted and the campaign ends Thursday, July 19th.
