Next Level Trainings to Raise $50,000 in 19 Days to Support Front Steps Housing and Services in Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness

COLUMBUS, OH – The Second Online Leadership Class of Next Level Trainings, as part of its transformational curriculum has created a large-scale community service project to support a Cleveland area non-profit organization. These 25 volunteers have chosen to support Front Steps Housing and Services and have set out to raise $50,000 by April 30th. Front Steps Housing and Services is transforming and inspiring the lives of those who have been impacted by the cycle of homelessness.

In Cuyahoga County, Ohio, about 19,000 people have experienced repeated homelessness within a three-year span. This includes the elderly and over 2200 public school-aged children in Cleveland. Without a safe and secure place to call home, men and women struggle to find jobs and support for their mental health and physical disabilities. Front Steps works to close the gap by providing safe, affordable, permanent housing for men, women, and children, in addition to reconnecting families and providing behavioral health services.

Community Service Project Leader, Torre Escott lived at Front Steps Housing and Services. Now she is paying it forward with the help of her leadership class. Abandoned by her mother at age eight, the East Cleveland native bounced from house to house. By the time she was in tenth grade, she’d been expelled from school. Living on the streets of Cleveland became the norm. Hopeless, Escott lived in an alley near Cleveland's, Greek Isle restaurant for a time; but that’s where things changed. She started dreaming again as she watched Cleveland State graduates walk across the stage. Making an abrupt move to avoid getting arrested by police, Escott ended up at a bus stop across the street from Front Steps Housing and Services. Director, Sherri Brandon, took her in and gave her a safe place to live. She’s since earned an Associate of Arts degree and is a successful real estate agent. “We all get an opportunity to grow and this shelter is not just where I was able to grow, but where I was able to blossom. Homelessness is not the end,” Escott explained.

Front Steps Housing and Services opened its doors in 1986 and has helped over 3,500 people. This fundraiser will help change more lives. The Second Online Leadership Class of Next Level Trainings will help with the purchase of basic housewares, toiletries, upgraded technology, and a 12-15 passenger van. The van will be used to transport disabled residents to and from healthcare appointments and the grocery store.
